OCCISSUM – A Netflix original campaign

In this HdM graphic design project we got to invent a Netflix Original series and then design a set of posters as well as some merchandise for it. Co-authoring and starring in this project are Sara Ullmann (GNTM Model) and Margarita Domke.

Brief

The brief was to create 3 Posters, for lightbox poster displays such as the one`s from STROER, for an imaginary Netflix series. We first had to come up with an overarching storyline for the series and then match our graphics to that storyline. On top of the 3 Posters we also got to design at least two articles of merchandise for the series.

Solution

The Techlord David Occisum transferred his consciousnesss into a cloud based AI after his death. Now he is controlling the world. He is Omnipresent, as the Internet of things has progressed, and his Company, the Organisation of Computed Control (short: OCC) is cracking down hard on the last freemdom fighters opposing their reign.

However, they cannot reach quite everywhere with their surveillance system. Therefore they hire assassin Sara, who´s main task is to hunt down the rebel Rita.

Sara Ullmann (GNTM Model), Rita Domke and myself devloped this storyline as well as the logo and 3 posters for this imaginary Netflix series. We created everything but the font and the Netflix logo from scratch.

Merchandise

For Merchandise we chose to design a set of lamps fitting the series. One wall lamp featuring the OCC logo and two desktop lamps featuring the stars of the show.

The Process

Occisum is one of over 30 latin words for “to kill someone”. This also matches very well with the evil organisations name in our imaginary series,
the “Organisation of Computed Control”.

Starting with the font AXIS PRO in all lowercase characters we adjust the kerning to be about 10% wider, add an “i-dot” and rotate the characters OCC down and to the left.

This rotatet OCC symbol also acts as the standalone identifier for the project and can be used in social media or other instances.
